“AI imagines the world as a random average. Again and again it reaches for the Western canon's stereotypical depictions. By stripping away the rich nuances of cultures, the precious is lost.”
Nida Khan / Creative Director and Educator, Graphic Design
Nida uses AI to turn ideas into images, animation, video and coded experiences more efficiently. For her, it works like an apprentice, helping with production while the thinking, craft and creative direction remain her own. Nida sees creativity as an intuitive and spiritually rich process. A piece needs to express a feeling, story or purpose. Generic images and cultural stereotypes can overlook the nuances that give a piece its meaning. She imagines AI’s environmental footprint as messy and murky, but considers it alongside other industrial processes and doubts that making the footprint more visible would change much.
